Xiaomi has patented several new smartphone designs over the years. The company’s under-display camera technology, which was patented last year, is commercial with the Mi Mix Fold 4. The brand has filed several new camera design patents since then, and the company now hopes to experiment with a more foldable form factor. Xiaomi’s new patent filing points to a similar design to the Galaxy Z Flip. A new patent has been filed by Xiaomi which is similar to the clamshell foldable design. Contrary to the company’s previous offer, a patent has been filed with CNIPA and pictures of the concept phone have also been shared.
According to the leaked images, the upcoming Xiaomi Fold smartphone will have an extended form factor that can be folded in the middle. The design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip released in 2020 is similar. The second smartphone to come with a similar design is the Motorola Razr.
What will be special in this Xiaomi’s foldable smartphone?
The foldable smartphone from Xiaomi has a bullet-shaped cutout in the top-left corner. The hinge is on both sides of the panel. The rear panel of the foldable phone houses a circular camera module. Which will have a triple-lens camera module. Since it is a concept phone, it is difficult to guess its specifications right now.
The upcoming foldable phone will have a fingerprint scanner on the side panel. The device can be seen at the bottom along with USB Type-C port, speaker grille and SIM card tray. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack at a glance.
The patent photo also doesn’t show any secondary display at the back. This means that the primary design highlight will be its clamshell foldable design. Also, the company can get this handset with flagship-grade hardware. But, since the details are a bit large, it is difficult to estimate the exact timeline. Smartphones with similar designs can also hit the market soon.
